A friend at the gym sat down next to me while I was stretching, inquiring what I'd been up to. He caught me at a moment when I was feeling a little behind in my day, so I just told him what my weeks were looking like, not thinking much of what I was saying, let alone thinking that it was anything spectacular (because, let's face it, being drenched in my own sweat and not having obtained my athletic goal for the day, I was feeling less than stellar). When I ended, his eyes widened as he said "Daaaaaaymm".
It got me thinking...I don't give myself enough credit for the things I do on a daily basis. Not that I need a constant pat on the back for every accomplishment attained, but I tend to skip over the little things, as I see myself as THIS far away from where I want to be. But it's the journey, right? The day-to-day that really fills this life? The process of being in the moment and knowing that every little step counts? I know this, I preach this, and yet sometimes I, too, need to be reminded of this.
So in response to his question...I just started my 3rd half marathon training and in my second week, I train five days a week, ranging from 30-37 miles per week. I throw in weight training for at least a half an hour as I don't want my muscles losing all their hard earned definition. I train karate three times a week for up to two hours per session, and I also work through my katas on a daily basis to further instill my lessons. I also have my fight team that trains @ 2 hours a week, so I'm there running, punching, and kicking with the best of them. And that's just my physical training...that doesn't even touch on the fact that I work on my acting career as a business and on my techniques. Oh yeah...and I have a quasi full-time, part-time job.
We all have different journeys, varied obstacles, and a plethora of adventures to go through that perhaps no one else will, but regardless of how different our paths may be, we must humbly acknowledge where we are on that path and give ourselves permission to celebrate every single step. Sometimes we may lose perspective but that's when your gym mates come in handy, asking you how your day has been, and unknowingly reminding you of how awesome your life really is.
